PAEDIATRIC EMERGENCY FIRST AID – TWO DAY WORKSHOP


Overview

This two-day course in Emergency First Aid has been developed for those who are working with children and babies. The aim of this course is to provide these persons with a sound knowledge and understanding of First Aid procedures when working with children and babies.

Benefits to your organisation
Subject to on-going assessment all delegates will receive an HSE recognised certificate
Appointed Person Paediatric - Emergency First Aid in the Workplace, valid for a period of 3
years.

Eligibility
In order to receive the Appointed Person certificate students must be 16 years of age at the
time they start the course. However, any student less than 16 years of age may receive an attendance certificate that is neither approved nor recognised by the HSE.

Course content
The content of the course includes information and training in:

  • Session 1 Introduction and Welcome
  • Session 2 What is First Aid?
  • Session 3 First Aid in the Workplace
  • Session 4 Responsibilities of the Appointed Person
  • Session 5 Primary Assessment
  • Session 6 Principles of Resuscitation
  • Session 7 Secondary Assessment
  • Session 8 Disorders of Respiration and Breathing Disorders
  • Session 9 The recognition and Treatment of Head Injuries
  • Session 10 The Control of Bleeding and Treatment for Shock
  • Session 11 Bones, Joints and Muscle Injuries
  • Session 12 Burns
  • Session 13 Poisons
  • Session 14 Bites and Stings
  • Session 15 Childhood Conditions

Who should attend
This will be of particular interest to Child Minders and Crèche Assistants, Playgroup personnel and anyone responsible for youth organisations.
