Introduction
This course of training is intended to develop the skills, knowledge and competence of Managers, Supervisors and Operatives who manage or carry out work where underground services are a potential hazard.

Course Aims
To enable delegates to assess hazards and risks by means of a risk assessment, develop and implement a safe system of work. To provide personnel with the opportunity to practice locating/identifying underground services that pose a potential hazard. To emphasis how cable avoidance tools would be necessary to comply with HS(G)47 in implementing a safe system of work and measuring delegates competence by practical exercises.
Objectives
At the end of the course, delegates will:-
- Understand the hazards and risks associated with underground services.
- Understand the necessity for safe planning underground services surveys.
- Be able to identify the correct survey methods and the appropriate marking methods.
- Know what safe digging practices are, and how to manage the implementation.
- Be familiar with the various principles of operation of cable avoidance tools, to ensure safe systems are followed
- Understand the appropriate emergency procedures, when dealing with services
- And casualty incident
